After NC-Congress Govt, BJP at Centre plays politics with flood hit people Delay in formation of Govt compounds miseries of affected people SRINAGAR, Jan 6: After National Conference-Congress coalition government in the state, Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) government at the Centre is playing politics with miseries and woes of flood affected people of the state more so when cold weather is taking heavy toll on the people badly hit by natures fury. The flood that arrived in the state in the first week of September last year devastated the lives of people. Thousands of structures got washed away while as more than 200 people lost their lives. The state government was found missing on the ground with no Minister available to redress the grievances of people more so those affected by flood. The state government through its executing agencies paid peanuts to the affected people with the promise that this would be the initial amount of relief. Although four months have passed since the occurrence of flood the subsequent relief amount is yet to reach the flood affected people. More than a month after the flood, the affected people were asked to share personal and bank details so that the relief amount is credited to the bank accounts directly. Majority of the flood affected families paid heed to the directive hoping that the bad time is over and good days are approaching, said Mohammad Yusuf, a resident of Mandir Bagh. Yusuf said that despite completing all the formalities the flood affected families are waiting for the respectable relief amount. He said the families who had to face the natures fury are yet to come to the terms and as such are forced to either put up in tents or at their relatives houses. The form was popularly known as Modi form and flood affected people had great expectations from Prime Minister, Narinder Modi. But up to this moment of time there is no signal whatsoever that would suggest that the central government is ready to help the people who lost their everything in the ravaging flood, said Bashir Ahmad, a resident of Shivpora. Most of the people of Kashmir more so those hit by the flood opine that delay in the formation of government in the state is aggravating the miseries of people. These people said that Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) should form the government with BJP in the state so that there is adequate allocation of funds for flood hit people. One should be realistic that money can come to the state only when the party in power at centre is a partner at the state level. As such it would be in the interests of the state that BJP is a partner in the next government. The party should form the government along with PDP so that there is relief for the flood hit people, said Hilal Ahmad, a businessman. It would be in place to mention here that common masses, traders and civil society activists have been taking pot shots at both central and state governments for failing to provide relief to flood affected families. It is due to this negligence only that many families are living in tents while others are living either as tenants or at their relatives houses.
