After Operation Cast Lead in 08/09, the UN commissioned the Goldstone Report. This is what they concluded: - The war was targeted against the people of Gaza as a whole to humiliate and terrorize a civilian population - It was Israeli government policy to deliberately target citizens in a manner that was systematic and deliberate - Civilians were killed while they were trying to leave their homes to walk to a safer place, waving white flags - The Israeli Army used Palestinians as human shields and tortured detainees - The Israeli Army was systematically reckless in the use of white phosphorus in built-up areas, hitting a UN compound and two major hospitals. - The blockade constituted a violation of Israels obligations as an occupying power in Gaza - The assault was designed to radically diminish [Gazas] local economic capacity both to work and to provide for itself, and to force upon it an ever increasing sense of dependency and vulnerability - There was wanton destruction of food production, water and sewerage facilities by the Israeli Army. The Report was endorsed by the EU, the French, the Swedes, the UK, the Swiss, the Turks, Norway, Amnesty & Human Rights Watch. Basically everyone except the US & Israel. How is it possible that the Israeli narrative of humanitarian self defence in an inescapable cycle of violence is still entertained even for a second? What is happening in Gaza can only be understood as another episode in the pre-meditated and systematic destruction of an entire people by a colonial settler movement.
