After Submarine, India cannot afford losing Rockets! Terror threat at ISRO’s launch unit, Security has been beefed up at the Satish Dhawan Space Centre, Sriharikota in the wake of credible intelligence that the high profile place is under the radar of Pakistan based militant groups. Since the past couple of days there have been various intercepts that Pakistan based groups who have created bases in Sri Lanka could launch an attack through the sea. Intelligence Bureau officials tell rediff that there has been a lot of information regarding an attack being launched out of Sri Lanka. The police have also received several anonymous calls regarding this and hence no chances are being taken. The places under the radar of these groups are the Madurai Meenakshi temple, Rameshwaram and the Satish Dhawan Space Centre. As per the input that the Intelligence has received there are around 30 trained Pakistan militants who are trying to carry out a series of attacks in Southern India. The Intelligence had several years warned that Pakistan based militant groups had tried getting close to the LTTE with the intention of setting up a Sri Lanka base which would make it easier for them to carry out an attack in Southern India. The latest intelligence information from Delhi suggests that these militants would enter India through sea and may land at Myladuthurai before staging the attack. The alert also suggests these highly trained terrorists would look to carry out a fidayeen attack like was done during the 26/11 attack. Groups such as the Lashkar-e-Tayiba have been showing a great deal of interest in maritime terrorism and had even set up bases in Maldives. The Sri Lankan base was also spoken about a few years back and it appears that they have the capabilities of launching a sea borne attack from the seas of Sri Lanka, an intelligence bureau officer also informed. All the intercepts indicate that the attack will be launched from the sea by a set of highly trained militants in maritime operations. While the security has been beefed up along the coast there is additional presence of the CISF at Sriharikota. This venue is being guarded heavily as it is a high profile target from where ISRO has been carrying out its launches including the historic Chandrayaan.
