After a beautiful but busy weekend in Cabo San Lucas (working, OK?), I flew home and went straight from LAX to the Canyon Club in Agoura Hills for the KMET Acoustic Flashback/Paraquat Kelley benefit, where I was a three-time winner: (1) I finally got to play with guitar ace Peter Stroud (some 25 years after meeting him), (2) I got to sing and play with two more stellar souls, as Kiki Ebsen and Janiva Magness joined me in succession for a couple of songs (including We Belong with Janiva homering on the second verse), and (3) I got to be a member of the Janiva Magness band for 25 glorious minutes. The evening didnt turn out to be very acoustic as George Thorogood, Slash, Paul Barrere and Fred Tackett, Waddy Wachtel, Prescott Niles, Julian Shah-Tayler, Curt Bisquera, and an ad hoc assembly that included members of Ratt, Dio, Quiet Riot, Giuffria and more, quite simply rocked the house. There were even dueling Whole Lotta Love renditions, most certainly not planned. It was heartening to see the LA Music community, especially that centered around its storied radio history, gather to help one of our own. As it should be.
