After a dozen games the Utica Comets are the best team in the AHL. - TopicsExpress

After a dozen games the Utica Comets are the best team in the AHL. Only one regulation loss this season and that was to the defending league champions, 1-0. Friday night, the boys went to LeBron’s house in Cleveland and beat the Monsters 4-1. Mike Zalewski, the former New Hartford Spartan, tallied his first pro goal. Biega and Grenier had two assists each. The love affair between this team and this town continues. The ultimate testimony to how far the fans are invested in this club being that fans are now touting Head Coach Travis Green. The guys on the bench are often overlooked in their role for the success of their team. If you look at the overall record of Travis Green as a hockey Head Coach, it is hard not to conclude that Green is as hot an NHL prospect at his job as any of the guys he has on the ice. The Comets are in Rochester tonight and I’m guessing that it will be Jacob Markstrom in the net. The Amerks are in second in the North Division, 8 points the Comets with just a game in hand. While we enjoy the riches of your still early season success, let us remember that our fortunes are not fully in our hands. The great benefit of AHL level hockey can also be its bane. As the Canucks go, so too do the Comets. A rash of injuries up top or a reward for a great performance here can change things and quickly. It’s the nature of the game. While we revel in the performance of what must be seen as a great team, a dozen games is more than just a streak, we must remember the nature of the game. How we act on the way up will help dictate how we’re treated later. We actually play a role in the resurgence in our community. This team is actually a big part of that resurgence and you play your part well with your enthusiastic support for this team. I haven’t seen anything like it. We are a reflection of who we are as a community; strong, supportive and positive. Keep it up and enjoy it. We deserve it!
