After a half dozen magnificent vistas and 60 miles, give or take, - TopicsExpress

After a half dozen magnificent vistas and 60 miles, give or take, I arrived at the Santa Elena Canyon. Dismounted the bike and noticed a beautiful monarch butterfly was smashed & caught up in my handlebar. The wings looked to be in decent shape but the body looked like it had been wedged too much to survive. Still, I carefully pulled the colorful mess from the trap & examined it for a sign of life. Nothing. Perfectly still. Instead of discarding this tragic calamity onto the hot asphalt, I tossed it toward some nearby sage. Miraculously, just before it hit the earth, the wings started flapping wildly and it alighted and fluttered away into the desert. That... was the best moment of today. :)
