After a late arrival at our hotel last night we were once again - TopicsExpress

After a late arrival at our hotel last night we were once again slow to get started in the morning. Then we dawdled at the start point talking to some of the staff. Turns out it was for good reason as several members of the Treasure Valley Volkssport Club arrived to meet us. :) Julianne even gave us some pictures of our parents from volkssporting in the 80s! Suelynn joined us for a bit on our walk to the Idaho State Capitol in Boise. The capitol was designed to capture natural sunlight and direct it to the interior. We found this capitol to be the most unadorned of all the capitols weve been able to explore, with few paintings or statues visible. The marble columns are not solid marble, but have a finished surface composed of a mixture of gypsum, glue, marble dust and granite dyed to look like marble. True marble is also used extensively throughout the building. On the capitol grounds we saw the Abraham Lincoln Statue which commemorates Lincoln who was president when Idaho became a state. After leaving the capitol grounds we accidently modified the route while we were after a geocache. We then got back on the trail but walking it in the reverse direction. A lot of the walk at this point was in the Julia Davis Park along the Boise River. We were surprised at one point to see a couple of giraffe peering at us over a fence. Our walk concluded on downtown streets back to the start point at the Y. We managed to avoid most of the rain from some ominous looking clouds.
