After a long debate back and forth over two different threads, two different days, with a young white cop who thinks people are being sensationalist when they describe the US justice system as racist.. I wanted to leave you, dear reader, a taste of his weird logic. I dont know Ive ever met someone so convinced the African American community is wrong and the justice system is.. to use his outdated Sarah Palin term.. colorblind. Here is the last thing he wrote... Its just a jumble. These are the people with power to lock you away: Lloyd Alan Burkholder wrote - I didnt say everyone in the justice system is colorblind. I accused you of generalization. Which is what you are doing. This whole conversation has been about you defending your argument of generalization and justifying its purpose. You are a sensationalist because you refuse to understand that by being a part of the generalization you are hurting more than you are helping. My argument is that racism is upon the individual to take responsibility for. Even in your own assessment of the criminal justice system you seem to have an inclination of personal responsibility. You would do away with jails and prisons because you view them as slavery and hold an opinion of society that indicates that it cannot change. Without them we would be left to our own devices, and given the ability to dole out our own personal justice to whomever we see fit. I dont trust a country where my neighbor could come shoot me in my bedroom because he thinks I stole his tv without any recourse black or white or latino or italian or native american or native australian. Makes no difference. Im not saying most people are like hat, but there are some... and for that we have prisons. Education against racism doesnt come from showing that it exists. Everyone knows it exists, existed, and will probably exist for a while to come. Education against racism starts from the ground up. We have to teach people that lumping others into categories based off of their appearance, gender, job type, country origin, religion or creed and so on is wrong. That is what I am doing here, and you are fighting me tooth and nail. You are so obsessed with the fact that there is inequaliy on one side of the coin, that you refuse to understand that you are a part of a movement that in itself wishes for inequality in return. I understand that no person within a minority will ever know for sure when they meet someone who or what this person is or believes or will do (#YesAllWomen) but you are forgetting that the right answer does not include doing it in return (#notallmen). I say not all employees in the criminal justice system are like that, I say the majority of them arent, and you respond with numbers and call me a racist. It isnt racist of me to disagree with what appears to be a cursory assessment of statistics, its intelligent. All of us should be careful not to quickly jump to conclusions based upon statistics. Isnt that what some of these racist cops are doing? Isnt that profiling? Of course it is! You have a long history behind your movement which is supported by a large percent of society (including me) and while i wish for the inequalities in the world to be fixed, I dont believe that creating stereotypes or generalizing others on the way is the right answer.
