After a lovely day visiting Bendigo last week on our rdo, we had lunch with Russ at his work Barzurk Restaurant where his lovely boss Matt shouted us lunch........highly recommend the scallop tapas......mmmmm! After lunch waiting for our float to have a camera fitted, the 3 of us went to the Bendigo Military Museum. ?.....had a tour and seen some great military items and a full size horse display with full lighthorse kit! Chatted to a terrific gentleman Bill about our involvement with the lighthorse in Creswick. He offered a military canteen to me as I mentioned it was hard to get one and I really wanted to find a canteen for my kit. So what arrived in the post today but an awesome canteen! I was so excited, cant wait to attach it to my kit and uniform for my next parade at Bacchus March on 7th September! I was so happy and look forward to catching up with Bill again. This canteen was from his private collection and it was pure kindness he donated it to me.......but as I said to him ultimately to the Creswick RSL Lighthorse Troop! This man had served in the army and had many stories to chat to John about the training days and serving his country. So I can say there are still some unique and kind peolle still out there......its such a shame they are so hard to find sometimes! If your ever in Bendigo and have a hour to spare......drop in and see Bill and Peter.......you will learn alot and some picture youll see are amazing. Its a credit to the family members that have donated to this awesome museum and to those who keep it running. Please have a good handful of change or a couple of notes to put into the donations box to keep these memories alive for future generations.
