After a month, I see my faculty again, beautiful than Ive ever seen. It is the largest in the school, and whenever I sit to look at its breath-taking, dark-brown buildings, lively smile warms my face, smile submerged in pride. It is evening when I get to the faculty. I pass the main road connecting my faculty to Physical Science. The faculty is silent and very neat. The broad trees lined in front of the tarred car-park dangle alluringly to the gentle evening breeze. The golden lights have begun to cast their shadows on the tarred road around the faculty. The security post is open, but every other office, above or below the main structure is shut. On top of the entrance building, bulging out of the main structure, and directly facing the wide car-park, the inscription reads, WELCOME TO FACULTY OF ENGINEERING. To my right is our old 1000LT, painted dark brown, but its veranda walls are painted with the colour of condensed milk. It is still very new. To my far left is the Senate building annexe, just dodging the gaze of the faculty main structure. Its magnificent view is covered by those numerous trees lined in front and by the side of the main structure, in regular pattern. But I can see its newly constructed car-park, adorned with inter-locking tiles, and white lights which I once imagined to be stunts of slender trees having globes of lights capping them. I pass through the tarred road which runs through the main building, leading into the road running from main gate to through the University Staff School to Social Sciences. As I pass the main structure, I see by my left, our LTs attached to the main building through a raised, railed floor. To my left is the tall general Engineering workshop. The grasses in front of the LTs are quite green and well cut. To me, it seems as if the earth were spread with clean green rug carpet. And oh, I am just noticing this now: the entrance to every lecture theatre has been lined with concreted walk-ways, walk-ways raised so high to shoulder the pavements of the lecture theatres. I am suspecting, pre-ubits students did the construction of the paths. But ah, this work, I think, is done by professionals, not certainly students. Perhaps, the students re-painted the concreted slabs bounding the paths, green and white. We did that last year during our pre-ubits. I get to our big and beautiful 200level class. I turn right and face the direction of Eduaction. I pass through thet footpath between Civil Engineering workshop and Chemical Engineering department, and Petroleum Engineering , and enter the wide Education field demarcated at the middle by palm trees at respectful distances apart. To my far left, across the main road running from main gate to Social sciences is the Senior Staff Quarters. The golden street lights are taking charge of the evening, staining the rustling leaves with their golden hue. The grey evening sky hosts black birds sailing to and fro with reckless abadon. I turn back to look at the sky over our main structure, and I see the grey sky stained with linings of orange and white. Students are in the field playing football. They are pre-ubits students for sure. They are playing the final of the annual pre-ubits competition. I hear now Mechanical students have won. Wow! Last year, we didnt pass the group stage. Petroleum and VTE made it to the final, and VTE won. I am heading now to Hall 3 to rest. Ive really stressed myself up today. Since Ill have nothing doing, and no friends to meet, Ill just walk into the reading room, and continue reading Amu Nnadis poetry collection, THROUGH THE WINDOW OF A SAND CASTLE which I bought recently in Ibadan. Our school wont resume unitil April 1st, and I am getting the hell out of here as soon as possible.
