After a more than an 11-hour travel from Librebille, Gabon, Bafana Bafana safely arrived at their base camp in Mongomo, Equatorial Guinea. The squad left their hotel at 01h30 and only checked into their new lodgings at 12h30. They had earlier spent just over three hours waiting for their connecting flight from Malabo to Mongomeyin Airport, near Mongomo. Bafana Bafana were in Gabon for a training camp ahead of the CAF Orange Africa Cup of Nations Equatorial Guinea 2015 tournament. They played two matches at the training camp – a 1-1 draw against Cameroon and 3-0 win over Mali. South Africa opens their account in the tournament with a clash against the number one ranked country on the continent, Algeria on Monday, 19 January. This will be followed by a meeting with a Senegal on Friday, 23 January with Ghana scheduled as the last group stage match on Tuesday, 27 January. “Our arrival here signals the beginning of the tournament, if ever there were any doubts about the event then they need to be removed. We have gone about our business with our preparations and we are happy with our achievements and now we wait for Algeria,” said Bafana Bafana head coach Ephraim Shakes ”You can see when you arrive here that there is a vibe that says the tournament is here and about to start. We can feel the excitement growing from the among the people we have met, more so among the players as this is the moment we have all been waiting for. We just want to get down to the business of playing,” said Bafana Bafana midfielder Thuso Phala. The CAF Orange Africa Cup of Nations tournament starts on Saturday, 17 January when the hosts Equatorial Guinea face Congo Brazzaville at Estadio de Bata in the capital Malabo. The match kicks off at 17h00 local time in Malabo.
