After a not so fantastic show 2 weekends ago (Just flat classes) I took her to another one last weekend. And even though it went much better I still wasnt completely thrilled with it. I knew she could do alot better. She didnt bolt at the canter this time. But there was lots of fuss in the trot. Still managed to win our equitation class and place second in pleasure and on command. I had packed my western gear with the possibility of going in the afternoon western classes. I was going to just go 2 handed snaffle since i was in green they would let me. But since i was a bit peeved at her for the english mishaps i decided to school her in my curb bit, one handed. Which she has had done once or twice... 3 years ago. (I ride trails and play w/t with the curb every now and then) And she was incredible. Could have passed as a western trained horse. We won our eq class, pleasure and came in second for on command. Just goes to show you that sometimes bad behavior can actually be just plain old boredom. We need to remember that circles, lines, transitions, the same ol same ol can actually bore our horses. Cross training with another discipline or finding something to spice up your routine can be extremely beneficial to our training. A happy horse will have more want to be good than one who is bored and looking for a fight to make their own fun.
