After a period of relative “budget quiet” between the County - TopicsExpress

After a period of relative “budget quiet” between the County Commission and the Sheriffs Department, last night’s county budget hearing ignited the fire. The commissioners seem united in asking Sheriff Blair to deliver a flat budget and will not approve his requested budget that would require a 21% increase in the property taxes for funding the MSTU for the Sheriffs Department. The county has reduced its budget by $8 million to keep property taxes flat and the commissioners are asking the sheriff to bring back a revised budget to the next public hearing on September 25 that also keeps his budget flat. What do you think? Are the commissioners on the right track in asking the sheriff to do what the rest of the county and other constitutional officers have done with budgets? ocala/article/20140911/ARTICLES/140919907/1454?Title=Blair-commissioners-have-heated-exchanges-over-budget
