After a second lumbar puncture (spinal tap) its been confirmed that Phil has whats known as JC Virus with an infection in his brain which presents itself with stroke like symptoms. 70-90 % of the world population has the virus, but it is often an issue with people with compromised immune systems such as Phil compounded by the fact hes been on high dosages of prednisone to suppress his lung issues (which seemed to be the only thing that would help him breathe without the aide of supplemental O2.) I needed to share this information with both of our sons before I said anything here. The issues with Phils brain aside because its an apples and oranges comparison, but how quickly I became thankful it was a stroke and not a tumor which they initially thought it may be only now to wishing it was a stroke and not this. Ill just say it and get it done — googling this doesnt serve any purpose per se other than to mess with ones head and heart and Ill leave it at that. It is the question the boys came back at me with as did several other people who I shared with when I needed to voice what was nagging within my brain. We simply do not know at this point — treatment plans are being discussed right now. Phil continues to improve from where he was when he arrived in the ER — he sleeps a great deal and the mere act of using the restroom or sitting up in a chair is beyond exhausting for him. Ive brought him in some comforts from home and contraband treats to encourage him to eat for he simply doesnt want to, but most often does it to humor us. My goal today is to see if somehow Chloe can make a brief visit — right now that would be bonus medicine and healing for both of them.
