After a super tough weekend, it was awesome to head across to Westmead Children’s Hospital to meet some very special children. As shown on my car and Facebook racing page, this year I am a proud supporter of Bear Cottage which is an initiative of the Westmead Children’s Hospital and have been raising awareness and fundraising both on and off the track. Bear Cottage in Manly is the only NSW hospice for children with life limiting conditions, I was unable to go to the cottage this time but my next visit to Sydney I look forward to going across and meeting the children, families and staff at the Cottage. At the Children’s Hospital all the children and their families have gone through so much and it was really hard to see some of them and the hardship behind each child and their parents faces; but in saying that it was also amazing to see the strength of each child and how awesome there were to meet. Especially this guy I am pictured with - Cody. He was waiting to go into surgery and was very nervous as anyone would be, but to see his face when Milicia – community fundraising administrator, I am pictured with her in front of the hospital – told him that I raced cars was something I’ll never forget! Then to see his father really smile and even offer to donate to Bear Cottage while his son was so sick was really special. Cody and special little 4 year boy Patrick, had just had heart surgery days before my visit, who has a love for V8 Super cars & the movie cars; As well as the many other special children made me realise how lucky I am to be able to do what I do and really opened my eyes and understand how truly lucky I am. Bear Cottage and Westmead Children’s Hospital is such an incredible place and has so much to offer sick children, their parents and siblings.
