After a tough week for law enforcement in the national media, we want to share a story of the compassionate side of being a police officer. Today, we received several calls of a male in a motorized wheel chair trying to cross SR14 at Kmart. Ofc Tom Ondecker responded and found the male at Stricklands getting ice cream. Ofc Ondecker learned that the male resides at the Maplewood Care Center so Ofc Ondecker took it upon himself to walk with the male from Stricklands back to the facility nearly a half mile away carrying the males groceries he had bought at Aldis. Tom is a great example of what it really means to be a police officer. Also a big thank you to Ricky Haylett who followed them to Maplewood then drove Ofc Ondecker back to his car. Mr. Haylett also sent us these photos.
