After a week, its finally front page. And it mentions something Ive been thinking: all these (200+) boats openly poaching coral, even quite close to the Japanese mainland (Izu Islands), might be probing Japans response - which has been negligible thus far. If this is what happens right on Tōkyōs doorstep —nothing, except maybe some behind the scenes maneuvring— then maybe not much is likely to happen if Chinese boats do something similar or more way off in the disputed Senkaku Islands. China now appears to be trying to defuse the situation, with yesterdays news reporting that China has been stressing cooperation (協力). Tōkyō was going to allow Chinese boats to seek refuge in ports of the Ogasawara Islands from the typhoon that just passed through the area - they might be boarded and inspected, though.
