After a weekend of watching general conference ( a church wide gathering in Salt Lake and via cable and internet- 5 2 hour sessions, occurring 2 times a year), I couldnt help but think that my son Grant will be a missionary teaching this message of hope in Christ in just over ten years. That excited me. Then I started thinking about what the world might be like for a missionary in ten years. There are so many folks now who despise general Christian principles, let alone the gospel as it is taught in the church. The Prophets and the Quorum are questioned and debated and disagreed with even by members who proclaim allegiance and faithfulness, let alone those not of our faith. Considering this and other concerns I witness on a daily basis, I realize now that my true calling in life is to raise good missionaries and good members of the church. By doing this, they will naturally be better people, better neighbors, and better citizens. But by keeping the focus on being a good missionary and consequently a good member of the church, I can prepare them for challenges that I never had and cant really even begin to anticipate. Most have already realized this, but it came into focus for me today.
