After a year of battling with an ongoing sinus / allergy issue, - TopicsExpress

After a year of battling with an ongoing sinus / allergy issue, last week, John had an MRI and was diagnosed with an inflamed optic nerve, Optic Neuritis. Since this has been known to be an early symptom of MS, we were encouraged to talk to some additional doctors including a neurologist. It was also recommended that he have a Bilateral Temporal Artery Biopsy as a precautionary measure to rule out other major issues. So today we spent the day at St Lukes. We started out in the surgery unit having the Biopsy. They gave him novacaine and said he wouldnt be fully out of it, but would have no memory. Well he remembers it all and he said the novacaine was pretty painful. It was just a 15 minute procedure, but he has two 2 inch incisions right in his sideburns. It will take a couple of days to hear results, but basically just hoping for news of nothing other than the inflamed nerve. After getting him home, fed and picked up some meds for pain we headed to the neurologists and got a good report from her that his MRIs were very clean and we should have no worries about MS now or in the future - Yeah. Then back to St Lukes to start 1 of 3 steroid IV sessions. Steriods are the way to treat the inflamed optic nerve, so they wanted to get started on that right away. One hour of fluid going into him. Yuck, but hopefully it will help. As opposed to chemo, steroids make you feel good so it shouldnt be too bad. He says his baseball career is now over, but Im hoping for some new muscles out of the process! Since all of this really has nothing to do with his sinus/allergy issues (supposedly) were still scheduled to see an Ear, Nose, Throat doctor next week. So we played the role of old people today, spending the day at doctors appointment, but in actuality was a good quality day of spending time together :) Just thought I would put this out as a post, to keep everyone informed. Sorry it got so lengthy.
