After acquiring some Tri bars, Clip in shoes and pedals and some - TopicsExpress

After acquiring some Tri bars, Clip in shoes and pedals and some hideous exercise garments from my dear brother, my training has increased over the holidays with my first recorded 45 mile bike ride and 18 mile run. Having known nothing about triathlons before starting this weird, arguably masochistic campaign Im very quickly learning why, despite my individualistic tendencies, adhering to peoples advice can get you a long way.. A neighbour of mine who cycles a lot said I cant believe you dont have your own specialised saddle yet.. Hearing this I looked up saddles and they all seem to be very oddly shaped so that they are in effect half the size of a normal saddle yet costing well above £100. I therefore decided to ignore the advice and carry on as I have been. Yet on returning from my first 3 hour bike ride on the weekend I noticed my private area suffered the worst out of every part of my body. In turns out using tribars means you have to reach right out in front of the bike and in effect create an acute angle (of less than 90 degrees) with your legs and back and therefore anything in the middle seems to get crushed... Consider it lesson learnt. Luckily my birthdays in february so will hopefully manage to ascertain a less invasive saddle before long!
