After all these months and working with leadership all around our region and state.... we still do not understand who and why this is continuing. It is as clear as day you dont tear up a treasured asset of a town. You dont wreck their economy by destroying the only growing revenue stream we have readily available. According to Alabama Tourism information our tourism revenue increased 55% in the last few years. It outpaced our states tourism growth of 6%. Industry takes time to attract we have huge competition in other towns surrounding us. The industry we do have and we can continue to grow is right here... heritage and lake attraction tourism. Tourism has brought more jobs in the last few years then any other industry in town. Many folks here say we need jobs. Then help us preserve our historical area. I promise you, I and others will work with the state to bring more film industry here. We have the perfect town to spring board into this industry. We are called the Sweet Home Alabama Town because Sweet Home Alabama filmed going down N. Eufaula Ave. with Reese Witherspoon. We have the perfect place to build many new tourism events and again movie and commercial opportunities. Pinewood Studios a 70 year old company and is one of the largest film production companies have just built a production facility site just 2 hours away in Tyrone/Peachtree City area. pinewoodgroup Pinewood produces TV series, movies and commercials. They have produced thousands of movies,,, including Harry Potter movies. They are scouting for new areas to film in Alabama and Georgia. This production company plans to build a bigger facility then even Hollywood. I have been there it is already huge! Please give our town a chance to get a clean and fantastic revenue producing industry to this town. The beauty of this industry is you dont have to have a large educated work force. They hire people of all ages as extras and other jobs. Our N. Eufaula Ave is our calling card. Movie production creates a lot of jobs. They need extras, they hire caterers, they fill hotels and lease nice homes for their VIPs, frequent restaurants, buy gas, use doctors... just about anything you can think of they spend money on. I lived in a town, Moab Utah that has filmed over 650 plus movies and regularly films many movies and commercials every year. This is a town out in a desert. Its closest town of any size 2 hours away any direction. I mention this to you because it is considered a destination town. That is exactly what Eufaula has been creating for a number of years with Fendall Hall, Shorter Mansion, residential historical homes and our lake. We must preserve the N. Eufaula Ave. if you want jobs.... you are looking at the ticket to more jobs. Give our towns leadership a chance to bring clean industry and jobs to our town. Heritage tourism is a growing business all over the country. Most towns have to create their historical attraction by building replicas of what it used to look like in order to attract tourism. We dont have to do this.... it is here... in all its historical glory! Lastly, if I wasnt so busy fighting this ill conceived plan. I would have more time to work on the effort to bring film industry to this town. So, lets collectively put this issue to a stop... so we can start working on a productive revenue producing industry for our town. In the meantime, other towns are wooing and attracting this industry and again... we will lose our opportunity!
