After an early morning trip to HEB, I decided to wax when you grow up, with my child. I encountered a man who, unfortunately, was speaking to his wife in a manner with which I would not even address my Lab/Heeler/Pit mix (and hes literally eaten my couch before!) Ive seen the prototype of this woman so many times before: in the faces of in-to-dating-too-deep teenaged girls, in an elderly woman in Houston who I found on the ground, intoxicated on her front steps in our condominium complex who begged me, with tears in her eyes, not to get her husband for help because he would, in her words, let me have what for; and also, in the faces of female customers whose husbands/partners spoke with disdain for my authority, in upper restaurant management when I would enforce policy without wavering as they became white-knuckle-angry. These womens faces say, not again. Im so tired of this. Keep quiet and absorb it, or this could escalate. Thankfully, in my own life, Ive never been exposed to men who act like this. In fact, I was endeared to my husband (then boyfriend) when we were in restaurant management together because on more than one occasion he escorted men out of the building (a couple of times, by their collars) who became threatening with me, and other female members of management. Perhaps my experience is why I am all the more enraged, and saddened, when I encounter these guys. I digress, but I couldnt help myself. I said to Graeham, When you grow up, you never speak to a woman that way... or anyone you care about. And further more, while you should seek out a woman who will respect you, assuming you always deserve it, you should NEVER be with a woman who will allow you to treat her that way. I dont care how old you are, you will answer to me if I ever see anything even remotely close to that kind of behavior. I am pretty sure I spoke with too much fever. All Graeham had to say after my sermon was, Yes Maam. Home training 101. Phoebe will get a similar lecture, and with any luck, several years worth of self-defense training! Respect is a two way street. *Quietly tucking away my soap box now...
