After another morning at the markets collecting fruit and enjoying - TopicsExpress

After another morning at the markets collecting fruit and enjoying the sunshine (first I have seen of the sun in days) and rifling through my first aid kit trying to find an appropriate antibiotic for my persistent stomach cramps- I headed off to Sepilok Orangutan Rehabilitation Centre for the next z two days. This 43 square kilometre reserve was created in 1963 and currently 60-80 Orangutan life free here, with twice daily supplemented feeding. I was not sure what to expect, as I have heard good and bad reports about this place in relation to "hands on" Orangutan interaction with the public and volunteers and I found out firsthand that this was indeed true- disappointing and a complete contradiction to all I have learnt on this journey. :( On the positive side, I had a lovely room, a pool basically to myself and beautiful gardens to explore for $45 a night. Winning! Oh and the best chicken and veggie soup I have had since being in Borneo, and no chicken feet in this one :) I have been most impressed by the lack of Orangutan at feeding times, only two turned up to a very disappointed crowd today. While the pushy people with their ridiculously big cameras pouted about the lack of wildlife, I politely stated how successful the rehabilitation programme must be here if they have 60-80 orangs and only two come for a free and easy feed :)
