After another successful year, Bid 4 Boquete is in the early stages of planning for next year. Our dates again will correlate with Carnival, on the weekend of March 1-2. This will afford us a little extra time for planning and putting together successful events and sales venues. In 2014 we will have two major beneficiaries: Amigos de Animales de Boquete and Buenos Vecinos de Boquete. What this means is that we likely will have more money to distribute to other charitable and civic organizations and, toward that end, we are moving to making B4B a wider effort, more of a “United Way” for the community. If you look at our website (bid4boquete), you will see that those organizations that received mini-grants in 2013 now have their logos reflected on the site. It is our hope that their association with B4B and their participation in our money-raising efforts will afford them greater visibility and will attract new supporters. And we welcome the association of even more charitable and civic organizations. We hope that all volunteers of all organizations will join us in this, the area’s biggest and most profitable charity drive. It is our intent to amend the B4B bylaws to allow for mini-grants of larger amounts. And an important consideration in the granting of these funds will be the degree to which organizations contributed to the B4B effort through the securing of donated goods and services and through volunteering to work before, during, and after the big weekend on March 1st and 2nd. Therefore, organizations interested in being a part of this broader, united effort and in receiving funding from B4B are encouraged to recruit members to serve on committees and/or to attend our kickoff volunteer meeting on Tuesday, August 6th, at 2:00 p.m., at The Oasis, at which meeting committee memberships will be a principal topic of discussion. All committees are seeking volunteers to help with their particular responsibilities, so members of organizations will have the opportunity to volunteer in an area commensurate with his or his interests and abilities. Please share this e-mail with your volunteers so everyone will be aware of what the new B4B is all about. Remember, if your organization needs money and if it wants to benefit from B4B’s success, now is the time to put together a plan to participate. Poll your volunteers and plan to attend the August meeting to register your interest in joining this effort.
