After being dismissed from the Garden and barred from the Tree of Life that stood in its midst, Adam fathered children that were in his own image of self-centered disobedience, rather than in the image of God. From that point man fell deeper and deeper into depravity, until the Lord deemed it necessary to destroy the race and start over with a single family, that of Noah. The covenant of the rainbow was one of the most important of many signs God gave during this period of time, a sign by which He indicated His intent to restore what had been lost through Adam and Eve. Later, with the call of Abram, Gods plan would continue to unfold as He prepared a people out of whom the Saviour could be born. One who would retrieve man from the bondages of sin and Satan. In order for this restoration to take place,(1 )man would need to be willing to be rescued; (2)the damage caused by sin would have to be paid for, and only Someone who was already guitless could pay the price; and (3)Satans influence and control would be broken. All three of these things were fulfilled at Calvary. The Cross would prove Gods incredible love for mankind, helping him to give up his rebellion. It would also provide the payment for the damage done by sin and at the same time destroy Satans influence and control over any person who would call upon Jesus.
