After catching up on the latest American Horror Stories, I thought I wanted to revisit Jessica Langes first role as Dwan in the Dino De Laurentis remake of King Kong. I havent seen it since I first watched it at the Olympic Theater in Cicero. For all of its bad press at the time, I found it extremely entertaining. And refreshing to see good old fashioned rear screen special effects and not any computer generated shots. So when Jessica Lange is being undressed with a giant ape finger, its a giant ape finger! And on a big screen and HD you can really see that the ape is just carrying around a Barbie doll. Lange and Jeff Bridges hold the film together with their personalities. Lange has star power in a role that probably would have tanked anyone elses career. Most of her scenes are of her doing orgasm faces, something that slipped by me when I was 13 when I first saw it. And Jeff Bridges floppy hair is a scene stealer. Forget Farrah... Jeff Bridges had the best head of hair in the 70s! The really haunting thing to see is the climax at the World Trade Center. Its impossible to see it without thinking of its destruction, especially while helicopters are flying into it. Its never going to outdo the original, but I positively hated the last remake, this one is at least fun.
