After chasing up the surgeon again today I finally got a call back this afternoon. I was gobsmacked when she said that they will aim to replace Hollys implant in the next 4-8 weeks!! She even went on to say that shes going on holiday at the end of September so she hopes to do it before then!! Here we were thinking that urgent and imminent meant Holly would be taken in within the next 2 weeks. Anyway, we had a discussion on the phone and both came to the agreement that Holly should only have the right side replaced. Holly will never fully benefit from an implant as it is intended, ie to enable speech again. She doesnt understand spoken language and only understands her name, No! and certain tones. She loves being able to hear and playing musical instruments etc, but that is as much as she will ever benefit from the implant. And she can get all that from one. Therefore there is no point putting her through the pain of having both sides replaced, and a lifetime of retuning them both every few months. So, its just a matter of sitting and waiting for that all important call with a date. I thought wed got over the latest bad period of seizure activity the other day but I was wrong. Holly had another terrible night last night, falling asleep at 4.15am. She woke up around 9am and had a surprisingly good day. We had a quiet day today to avoid her getting overtired and unable to sleep again tonight. I think shes feeling ok in herself though as she has been particularly destructive at home!! Shes thrown everything she can get her hands on: remote controls, shoes, magazines, bowls of crisps, DVDs!! Dining chairs are toppled over and doors slammed!! Cant take our eyes off her for a minute or you get a shoe in your face!! Shes some girl ❤️❤️
