After extensively helping my 4th and 10th grade daughters with their math homework this year I am surprised at how little the teachers are showing/encouraging them to use good, step by step, problem solving methods. To break down an algebra problem into multiple, bite sized steps. It seems these days that theres more homework thrown at them with the expectation that they figure out how to solve themselves. Digging deeper Im starting to realize Common Core is not emphasizing teaching the how to as much as it sets the expectation of just getting the final answer. We need to teach our kids good ways to fish more so than just expecting them to magically acquire fish.
