After finding some better form in recent weeks Rapid suffered a setback as they were beaten 5-1 away at Anglian Rovers. Rapid were boosted by the return of Lewis for his first appearance in goal this season. Rowe was also back in the centre of defence following three months out and Davis returned to the fold after a few weeks injured. Lewis Gardner Martin Rowe Taylor Parke Orr Kobylecki Jones Weavers Davis Sub: Rudd It was probably the kind of game you’d expect from two sides who hadn’t been enjoying the best of seasons to date - a scrappy affair without huge amounts of good football being played. Rovers went ahead when a corner fell to the feet of a player inside the 6 yard box who had the simplest of tasks to stab the ball home. Their initial lead was to be short lived when Jones deftly floated the ball over the stranded home team ‘keeper from the left of goal. Unfortunately for Rapid another dangerous corner, one of several “helped” by the wind, was turned into his own net by Gardner as he stooped to attempt to head the ball away. A stunning point blank save from Lewis prevented Rovers adding to their first half lead. Half-time saw Rudd come on for Parke, he slotted in at right back with Gardner moving up to the right wing. Rapid were a bit brighter in the second half and had a couple of near misses. The luck must have been with Rovers though as they escaped having a player sent off for chopping down Weavers in the box when the striker was through on goal and then saw Gardner’s resulting penalty come back off the woodwork. Committing numbers forward to attack left Rapid short at the back and Rovers took full advantage of this with some clinical finishing that made the score line emphatic. GP
