After giving it some thought, there were four big faults I found with Transformers: Age of Apocalypse. 1) New cast of Autobots - Optimus, Bumblebee, Ratchet, Brains and Leadfoot were the only returning Autobots. No mention is made of Sideswipe, Mirage, Arcee, Skids, Topspin, Mudflap, Elita-1, Chromia, Roadbuster, Jolt or Wheelie. Granted the new Autobots were really cool, but why they had to recycle Bumblebee, the most boring one, is beyond me. The whole talking through the radio thing wore thin after Revenge of the Fallen. Theres plenty of Autobots they could introduce to be the human friendly scout, and theyd actually have a personality. 2) Different opening titles - Every film always opened the same, with a poetic and epic narration by Optimus Prime with the awesome music playing, setting up the plot device for the movie culminating with a transforming logo. This time, the movie just kinda opens on a flashback with no setup, just, alien ships in orbit over prehistoric Earth. 3) No Linkin Park - Yes I know these guys have more albums than they do original songs, but it was a tradition of having a new Linkin Park song playing as the movie ended and Optimus gave another epic and poetic monologue, typically a message being sent out into space. It left something to be desired. 4) The Dinobots - Theyre introduced so late into the film it barely even counts. Granted every minute of screentime they get is spent smashing, slashing, stomping, scorching and stampeding every Decepticon in their way. But they didnt get any kind of setup, or names on screen. They shouldve cut screentime for the human characters to give the Dinobots a proper introduction. Nothing major, just a quick Me Grimlock, Dinobot Leader. Slug, Strafe, Scorn, Dinobot warriors. Wouldve taken all of 60 seconds. Maybe next time. ...On the other hand, the film had zero Shia Labeouf, any human characters on screen serve a narrative purpose, and of course, Hound. That guy steals every scene hes in. Theres finally a contender for coolest Autobot that can rival Jazz.
