After harrowing months of auditions and screening, event organizers Nagaland Outdoors Club (NOC) and Sky Entertainment have shortlisted 29 bands from across the subcontinent to compete in the 2014 edition off the Hornbill International Rock Contest. The organisers believed that the bands that they have selected will have all the three themes of musicality i.e., melody, technical proficiency, and artistry in the performance. The menu is from the blues to protest, Indian Carnatic to the metal ‘80s, pop rock to post-rock, the organizers promised. The shortlisted bands included four from Nagaland, and scores from as far as Bangalore and Darjeeling. The details of the selected bands are as under: 1 Vishnu (Delhi) 2 The Mongrels Cacophony (Kolkata) 3 The Doppler Effect (Delhi) 4 The Beta Funktion (Chennai) 5 Tape Town Madness (Bangalore) 6 Silver (Pune) 7 Serenade (Kolkata) 8 3 Ton Capacity (Bangalore) 9 Restless Desire (Tura) 10 Red Sky Pirates (Darjeeling) 11 Hidden Truth (Kolkata) 12 Chrome O Soul (Chennai) 13 Black Dog Machine Gun (Darjeeling) 14 The Royal Flush (Arunachal) 15 Final Surrender (Bangalore) 16 The Family Cheese (Mumbai) 17 Nightmares (Sikkim) 18 Muses Of Authority (Siliguri) 19 Hypnosis (West Bengal) 20 Hidden Identity (Kolkata) 21 Grey Shack (Chennai) 22 Crazy Weather (Delhi) 23 Adroit (Meghalaya) 24 Rage Hybrid (Nepal) 25 Condemned Hour (Tura) 26 Paper Sky (Nagaland) 27 Technicolors (Nagaland) 28 Stereo Type (Nagaland) 29 Tune It Again (Nagaland) For two straight days from morning to evening on October 31 to November 1, the judges / selectors Andrew Ngullie, Abemo Enyie, and Thejove Medeo sat down and endured endless hours of video footage, audio, and unhealthy doses of debating (and the occasional quarrel) about which band deserved a slot. Creative personnel and leaders of NOC and Sky Inc., were present during the musical brainstorming. The pioneering musicians then fished out a list, which the NOC and Sky Entertainment, now assure that fans are going to have the time of their life when the music begins on the evening of December 4, in Kohima.
