After having it suggested to me by Heather Tanguay and several other people, I am seriously considering running for Mayor. I love Palmerston North and want to promote local businesses, local products & services, and put PN on the map as a vibrant, caring, and sustainable city -and the best place to raise a family in the World. We have all the pluses of a big city, without the hassles, & beautiful countryside is only minutes away. There is potential to make this a top cycling & eco city, and EV charging stations would bring more travelers here, on their way from East or West or North or South. We could also make it the most beautiful city, through our parks, & by planning matching styles eg verandah shop fronts, & hanging baskets, in areas of the city, & protecting & enhancing the historical & boutiquey-feel of Broadway, George Street & Terrace End. As well as my positive visions for PN, I want to raise the issues around Fracking & the TPPA. These are things that could put our idyllic local communities at risk- threatening our rights to clean air, clean water & safe food..as well as jobs, health, safety & that special Kiwi lifestyle. The TPP threatens these, & much more. Our community has the right to be informed on these (& other) issues, & to have a say about whether they should go ahead. Transparency & community education & engagement are essential parts of Democracy. I plan to organize more public forums around these issues, to give our community a voice.
