After it stopped raining late this morning, I went back to Colbert Park in Savoy, IL, to take more photos of the Trumpeter Swan. But the swan was gone (I later saw it on a pond in a subdivision just to the east of the park). While I was looking at all the ducks and geese on the lake in the park, all of a sudden the ducks took off. I looked up and saw a Bald Eagle flying overhead - certainly a bird that Ive never seen in Champaign County!! Since eagles prey on small ducks, the ducks all took to the air, so that they wouldnt be sitting ducks on the lake. The eagle circled the lake and then flew off towards the east. I followed it for a couple of miles - and every time I stopped the car and set up my camera & tripod, it took off again. But I did manage to get these photos. Gosh, a Trumpeter Swan AND a Bald Eagle on the same day - and just a few miles from home! I better go buy a lottery ticket.... Nikon D810, Nikon 400 mm lens & 2.0x TC.
