After last nights Channel 31 insults by the For Charter gang to the citizens of Lincoln County, I am compelled to respond. It was stated that they have been trying to educate the public about the charter, however the mailers and the ads that were running obviously were more than trying to educate the public. They were pushing the vote for the charter and the funds provided for development of the Charter clearly are not supposed to be spent for that! How about simply mailing out copies of the Charter to the public, without the preamble highlights section that inaccurately reflects the content if the document. Let people decide for themselves. Tell the whole story, not the twisted story being told to secure votes for the Charter. As I stated in a comment tied to Mike Hopsons post, I have been guilty of letting folks think I support parts of the Charter. I have said there are some aspects of the charter I would support. Let me be more accurate. I CANNOT support any part of the document because the document is full of holes. They should have spent some of the Lincoln County TAXPAYER FUNDED $50,000 to pay a proof reader, then have done a formal legal review by a Tennessee lawyer, then a cost analyst as well as someone to perform a risk assessment. There obviously was a complete lack of understanding of project management or how documents with this level impact should be developed. Then WE would know exactly what it would cost to put this into place and what the consequences would be. Maybe rather than providing this group more Lincoln County Taxpayer funds, this group should pay the citizens of Lincoln County for throwing such an illegitimate document at the public!
