After last weeks disappointing 3-0 loss, The Badgers travelled to YMCA hoping for a reversal of fortunes. They were rewarded in the end as a superb team effort saw them fight hard for a 3-2 victory. In total contrast to their previous game, Today saw the defence and midfield link superbly to set up numerous attacks in the first half. From a short corner early on, Ru Clarke hit the post and a composed finish from Chris Booth off the rebound gave them the lead. Rob Andrew was unlucky not to grab a goal as his positioning was perfect on several occasions after good work from Keith Howell and Shane OBrien. Navan went into the break a goal to the good and playing some excellent, passing hockey. Things were to continue in the second half as they away team went two up after an own goal. YMCA regrouped and the appearance of Ian Walker gave them fresh impetus. After Clarke was binned for a body check, they pulled a goal back. The south siders then pulled level controversially as their short corner shot seemed to hit an attacking foot but this was missed by both umpires and the goal was given. Both teams had their chances although the Badgers looked more likely. Shane Dooley marshalled the defence superbly along with Roger Warburton to hold out. Another short corner two minutes from the end gave the Badgers a chance and Ru Clarke stepped up to drag flick for the win. A spirit-lifting win for Navans first team then to give them great momentum going into the second half of the season. With injured players set to return, they can look at a promotion charge if they maintain their performances.
