After long breaks finally I finished Bertrand Russel’s The History of Western Philosophy. Russel’s immense proficiency in history, his confident treatment of the knowledge built up by some of the most brilliant minds over the past 2500 year, and his skill to correlate wide-ranging social movements with traditional fields of philosophy (metaphysics, epistemology, logic, and ethics) left me beguiled. Not for the faint-hearted, but if one has interest in the collection of fundamental thoughts human intellect produced that go beyond ideological dogmas and the chaotic flurry everyday life forces on us, this book is a most rewarding read. For such readers multiple revisits to the book are almost guaranteed.
