After more than 50 years, local barber Jerry Brown is retiring, - TopicsExpress

After more than 50 years, local barber Jerry Brown is retiring, leaving his longtime clients both distraught over having to find a new barber and honored to have known him. “To a man, a barber is his priest, his psychologist and his best friend,” West St. Paul Mayor John Zanmiller says. “Relationships with a barber, when they last that long, are pretty special. It’s a testament to the type of man he is.” Looking back at his list of clients, Brown says he once had more than 400 regulars and he knows exactly how to cut each one’s hair without taking notes or asking for a reminder. Asked what he’ll miss most, Brown began to choke up. “I’ll miss the guys. I’ve spent more time with the guys than I do with my wife,” he says, taking pause to dry his eyes. “They’ve pretty much been my life.”
