After much thought and discussion, and with input from many of you, the New York State Commission for the Blind and Visually Handicapped (CBVH) proposed a name change for our agency this year. Governor Cuomo introduced legislation to accomplish that as one of his priorities for this year’s legislative session and I am pleased to report that the bill that changes our name to the “New York State Commission for the Blind” (NYSCB) (A7210 in the Assembly and S4540 in the Senate) was passed by both houses of the legislature and signed into law by the Governor today! Staff at NYSCB has started to use the new name by changing email signatures (see mine below!) and voicemail messages. It will be featured on our website at ocfs.ny.gov/main/cbvh/ very shortly and, over the next few months, on all of our communications.
