After my mind was wandering in a science fiction mode - I wrote - TopicsExpress

After my mind was wandering in a science fiction mode - I wrote the following poem. LIFE ON MARS I bought a spy-glass to gaze at the stars, I found I could view the fine detail on Mars. But quite unexpectedly what did I see? A man with a telescope gazing at me! So on a big blackboard I scribbled a note: ‘What are you doing on Mars, sir?’ I wrote. With a flourish, he knelt on the soft Martian sand And scraped his reply with the edge of his hand. ‘I’ll tell you, young man, why I left Planet Earth. A long time ago, quite soon after my birth, I didn’t like what I was seeing down there, So I sought me a happier future elsewhere. ‘I hitched me a lift on a ship into space, And, behold, I discovered a far better place! There are others here too who have made their escape – Our futures appear in a rosier shape! ‘We’ve no wars to fight, no diseases or pain, A touch on the cool side, but not too much rain. We’ve adjusted to life here – it’s jolly good fun, Just a little bit further away from the sun! ‘So there, sir, you have it – we’ve made up our minds. You can see why we’ve left Mother Earth well behind. I think I’ll sign off now – could do with a break – The edge of my mind is beginning to ache!’ BY DARRYL ASHTON
