After over 8 years, Epson has finally upgraded their V700 and V750 film scanners, and they changed exactly zero specs with regards to image capture. Following in Nikons footsteps, they could have just named them V710 and V760. They did upgrade the appallingly bad film holders, which is great... but there are already quality after-market holders. At least I probably wont need to recommend them to new purchasers. And they upgraded the warm-up time by switching from cold cathode to LED. I never thought warm-up time was bad or a big deal. While Im glad they are still paying attention to film scanners, they really needed to improve resolution. They claim 6400dpi optical resolution, but thats theoretical. In practice its about 2400dpi. If they had even got up to 4200dpi thatd cause most V700/V750 owners to upgrade RIGHT now. And still no auto focus? Cmon. Even the V600 has that. My recommendation has not changed. If youre only scanning 35mm, dont get a flatbed. There are dedicated 35mm scanners that are a fraction of the price and will produce similar or better results. If you have a good full-frame DSLR, with the right setup you can produce lab-quality scans just from that. Medium format is where you start to get your moneys worth, and with large formats of 4x5 and larger, theres nothing better on the market for home-use at the price.
