After passing many days in Zindaan-e-shaam, one such evening J. Sakina(s.a.) asks our 4th Imam “Brother, does the Imam of the time has knowledge of all the things seen, unseen & answers to all the questions of the time?” Imam (a.s.) replied “Yes” Then she (s.a.) again asked “Then I have a question as to how many levels of thirst, or a person till what extent can bear the thirst of water?” J. Zainab (s.a.) who was at a distance came there & took J. Sakina (s.a.) in her arms and said that she should not ask such questions and said to Imam Sajjad (a.s.) as to there was no need to answer it. Imam Sajjad (a.s.) said “My dear aunt, today my sister has asked a question to the Imam of her time and I have to reply” Imam (a.s.) said “There are four levels of thirst, 1st is that what we keep roza that from morning till evening, we keep away from food and water and if by chance after maghrib also we do not drink water , darkness comes in front of our eyes and we feel dizzy” J. Sakina (s.a.) replied, “Yes, I remember this condition of my brother Qasim who was so thirsty that he stood to fight one by one with the enemy but when Umar-e-Saad (l.a.) saw this he sent enemy soldiers in groups and my brother was overpowered and how with cruelty he was martyred.” I. Sajjad (a.s.) continued “Second level of thirst is that you are thirsty for two or three days or more and you feel your tongue so dry that thorns are pierced in it and scratches comes on your tongue and your part of the toungue goes so dry that you want to remove the tongue out of your mouth and throw it away.” J. Sakina (s.a.) says “Yes, I remember this state was of my father Imam Hussain (a.s.) whose tongue due to thirst had gone so dry that at the time when the spear had hit my brothers heart and he was lying in my father’s lap he requested my father to give the support of the wetness of his tongue just for one time which can ease the dryness of his tongue but when my father gave his tongue in my brothers mouth my brother cried that father your tongue is drier” I. Sajjad (a.s.) said “The third stage of thirst is when you remove a fish from water and keep it on the land. The fish will shiver due to desperate need of water and after a time it will open and close its mouth. ” Hearing this J. Sakina cried “Yes, I remember this was the condition of my younger brother Ali asgar as when my father took him and kept him out on the hot burning sand my brother was just opening andclosing his mouth and then he got the which killed him mercilessly.” Hearing this all the people in the dungeon started crying and Imam (a.s.) went unconscious. J. Sakina was sitting there and when Imam (a.s.) regained his conscious, she (s.a.) asked what was the last stage of thirst? Imam (a.s.) continued “The last stage of thirst is that when the water percentage in one’s body falls to zero and the person becomes so helpless and weak that the flesh of the body leaves its attachment with the bones and the person dies.” Hearing this, J. Sakina (s.a.) raised her hands and showed it to Imam and said, “Brother, see this is my condition, my flesh has left my bones and I am dying.”
