After reading a article by Jan Pain on the Communtiy page (which I am not a member of), I find myself needing to ask quite a few questions. This is not the start of an argument so please dont perceive it as that but a topic that I struggle to get my head round. We are very new and naive to the breed but if its not already obvious from our facebook page we are obssessed, we were very much into our dogs before we got the Wolfhounds but they tipped us right over the edge, turning us into total dog nerds. So here goes. In an analysis of of the Wolfhound registrations the concerned club member reports disturbing reading, 302 puppies over a particular year, 125 from registered breeders (the lowest percentage probably ever reported), 143 pups from other sources and 34 imports (rising since 2010 to the highest reported ever, ), there seemed to end the analysis and once again it tuned into very negative reading (please whomever wrote it, dont be offended by my saying that), negative reading with regards to the breeders that you refer to as other sources and imports. As harsh as it maybe, being a member of the Irish Wolfhound Club or society is not compulsory and as you pointed out the registered breeders pups in that particular year were the minority, which is a shame as those pups are guaranteed health checks and more often that not come from well know lines, seen in the show ring for years. So what would be a solution, if we could, do we get rid of the other sources and the imports? If that were the case the analysis of registration for that year (2012) would read 125 Irish Wolfhound pups registered, I think that in itself is a shame as I would not have my wolfhounds today, had that been the case. In fact, I can think of a few people that would not have Wolfhounds, if it were not for the other sources, people that were point blank refused help and advise from the club and society. If there is a demand for Irish Wolfhound puppies then why is it not being met by the registered breeders? Where is the encouragement for other sources or new breeders to even consider joining the breed clubs?
