After reading some of the discussions I have seen recently, I was reminded of a story a long time ago between two neighbors, it went something like this… “What are you doing here by yourself? “Asked a skeptic of his Christian neighbor one day. I am reading a book that has only two leaves, was the reply Then it wont take you long to read it, said the other. Months passed away, and they met again. Well, what are you doing now? I am still reading my little book. What! And it had only two leaves in it? Yes; a white leaf and a red one. I dont understand you, queried the skeptic. Well, the white leaf is the holiness of God, and the red leaf is the blood of Jesus Christ, His Son. When I study the white leaf, and see my sin in the light of Gods holiness, I am glad to turn to the red leaf and rest my eye on the blood of Jesus. And when I realize the preciousness and efficacy of the Savior’s blood, then I feel a longing for holiness, and torn again to the white leaf. I am sure that the little book will occupy me all my life, and I expect it will be my joyful meditation through eternity. My friends, don’t let your pursuit of holiness, prophecy, law-keeping, or any other thing keep you from turning back to your frequent contemplation of the finished work of Christ for your soul. It was an act of a loving God. You and I were helpless. Yes, you and I are still very helpless without Christ. When we forget that, when we forget that our worship is centered on the Cross, whereby Divine love made manifest for us, then we have forgotten what is truly important in Christianity and we have forgotten completely our purpose and our calling.
