After reading the poem “I Will Not Let Exam Result Decide My Fate” by the poetic prophet Suli Breaks, in which he asserted that In this day and age, various global governments, cultures and generations seem to be drilling into our brains the importance of getting an education and excelling in school/college/university working to pass all the exams we need to. But often they can discourage and alienate the “non-educated” people who made their own path and grinded hard in their field to make true successes of themselves without education and exam results dictating what their chosen path will be, I am feeling betrayed and let down by my father, and I am well convinced that there are many Kids and individuals out the who also shared this same view. When I was growing up, I used to be a very good footballer and one of the best among my peers of which is now dominating local and world football. On many occasions, I was flogged for abandoning studies for football and when it reaches greater height I opted to pursue the desire of my father by choosing school over football. During my short football career, I managed to win some MVPs and Top Scorers awards, and was selected in the provisional Under-13 National Team squad in 2001 that was heading for Sweden to participate in the Under-13 World Youth Championship. Additionally, I represented my school at youth level and some point in time captained the Junior Team of St. Edwards Catholic School under the tutelage of Coach Tamba. However, I have ended up on a professional shore far away from football as a result of my inability to continue playing the game due to my father preference for school over football. I was denied the opportunity of becoming a super star of that which I am convinced. Now I am a BSc holder in Economics and also have a first level certificate in Monitoring and Evaluation. I am under the employed of one of the most important institutions to post war Liberia recovery and development. Relatively, I have been an “A” student throughout my student life, graduating from University and High School as an honoree. Many will argue that to some extent I have been successful in the Academic environment; however, I am still convinced that I would have done better and become even more successful if I were given the chance to pursue my dream of becoming a football star. One may ask why I think so? In truth, I had a great deal of talent and trickery to make it on the bigger stage back by my athletic discipline. Many of the people that witnessed me playing can attest to this assertion, at certain point in time my father was even told by his friends that he will soon start eating football money. To be honest, I still few betrayed and let down by my father and still harbor the perception that my fortune to become a football star was altered by him. However, in all sense and fairness I strongly appreciate my father for pressing me and making me who I am today. That being said, I am now face with the challenge of competing equally well with my education contemporaries. I need a Masters degree or more to stay in the competition. While on the other hand, you will agree with me that Undergraduate or Masters Degree is not a requirement of becoming a successful Footballer. Henceforth, there are others out there that have failed in life as a result of their parents’ refusal to permit them to pursue their dreams. On the other hand, others have been made to appear dull and dry due to the fact that they could not applied econometrics techniques like: Augmented Dickey-Fuller unit root test, Univariate co-integration test, Error correction model and Granger Causality test to determine the extent to which consumption depends on income, or how output depends on inputs. In summary friends, Suli Breaks has liberated us from such societal ill by his poem “I Will Not Let Exam Result Decide My Fate” and I have just been recruited as one of his apostles. We should learn to walk away from choosing success path for our children and embrace the lesson of this poem. Children should be allowed to pursue success path base on their talents and make-up. Parents need to support their children that oppose their view about success and life. They need your moral and financial supports to be who they want to be. In conclusion, give them what they want not what you want for them.
