After receiving multiple disgruntled messages, Id just like to say that I dont blame Tippecanoe Valley School Corporation for Nicole Mikels death. I do however, believe that after so many deaths within the school system, and a large number of them being suicides, there are definitely things that Valley could be doing but they are not. As an aspiring educator myself, I believe that it is a schools duty to not only teach their students, but to protect them as well. Valley is notoriously hush-hush about situations like theses, and have often taken the wrong measures. To glorify a students behavior after he tragically passed away of a drug overdose, yet barely mention another who committed suicide that same year, is absolutely wrong. (Not to mention the fact that they failed to educate on the dangers of drug use following said students death. May he rest in peace.) Im sorry, but its the truth. I have said it before, and I will say it again: Tippecanoe Valley School Corp. and the students and staff members within it need to stop living in denial. There needs to be a no tolerance bullying policy, and it needs to be ENFORCED.
