After receiving my 2nd email this morning explaining that I would not be hired for a wedding this year due to the fact I do not wear skirts or dresses to shoot weddings, I feel its only fair for me to be able to defend my choice. I honestly never thought Id have too, but since the topic has come up, let me just say that its a photographers personal choice as to what they choose to wear to capture a wedding. Usually we go with items that are easy for us to stand in for extended periods of time, so no I do not wear heels to shoot weddings. I know for me personally I tend to crouch a lot and find myself in some genuinely awesome positions to get my shots, so no I dont wear a skirt or dress of any make. An indecent exposure issue is NOT something a photographer wants to deal with. I also wear a simple polo with my business name embroidered on the front so that guests know who I am, and why Im there. This way I dont have to fight for shots, or guests think Im being rude if I ask them to politely move. Pair that with black slacks and shoes that I can stand in for 8+ consecutive hours and thats my basic ensemble. I wear a smile too. I dont have a fleet of assistants, or a partner, to aid me on wedding days so Im dressed to make sure I am where I need to be to get the shots that are required of me. If this is something that you frown at for your wedding day, then we are definitely not a match! Love & Light ☼
