After secondary school I got the opportunity to work as a pupil - TopicsExpress

After secondary school I got the opportunity to work as a pupil teacher in one of the private schools in Ashaiman. Everyday during their morning assembly, they recited the schools anthem and one of the lines caught my attention every time they recited it. The anthem was a speech by Martin Luther King Jr. where he is quoted as saying, If a man is called to be a street sweeper, he should sweep streets even as Michelangelo painted, or Beethoven composed music or Shakespeare wrote poetry. He should sweep streets so well that all the hosts of heaven and earth will pause to say, Here lived a great street sweeper who did his job well. What do you do? A street sweeper, a dressmaker, a teacher, a plumber, a cleaner? Unfortunately, society has tagged some jobs as mundane or of people of a lower class and others as of a higher class. So whoever finds him/herself doing such jobs is considered lower in class. You have every reason to be proud of any job you do. I am a teacher and proud to be one. You know why? Because I believe I have the greatest role in life - to train, nurture, and shape the next generations future leaders. With this thought in mind, I do my job with every fibre in me. I am sure those whove observed my tutelage will attest to it. Dont be ashamed of your job. Go all out with your chest out and work like never before. You dont need to be an engineer to be fulfilled, nor a doctor, accountant, etc. The Bible says, WHATSOEVER your hand finds to do, do it with ALL your might. Whatsoever is whatsoever; none is an exemption. Go, and make a difference with your work. The world needs you as we need every other professional.
