After seeing so many accidents and mishaps, I really feel a sense of urgency to drill my kids about safety, including the use of life vests, awareness of fire/smoke hazards, knowing where the emergency exits are (eg. in every crowded area, in hotels or when taking a flight/ cruise). I cannot be with them all the time. They need to know how to take care of themselves in an emergency and to judge the situation for themselves.
