After several failed attempts, Im proud to announce that today - TopicsExpress

After several failed attempts, Im proud to announce that today marks my one year anniversary of being smoke-free!!! I truly appreciated and relied on the support and encouragement expressed by many of you throughout this journey. Some have asked how I was able to do it, so here is my story: I realized that previous attempts failed because I was simply not mentally ready. I also combined two goals into one - quit smoking AND get in shape. I failed. Last year I started to mentally prepare myself. I set multiple goals specific to turning 50 years old. Goal one was to be smoke-free by the time I was 50 (not quit on my 50th) and accept the fact that there was going to be some weight gain. Three weeks on Chantix, five months later and eight pounds heavier, I turned 50. Check. Goal two was to focus on the weight gain and get fit. So ten pounds and ten months later, and exactly five months after turning 50, I purchased a #Fitbit and started my own exercise regimen in the comfort and privacy of our home. This too, was also a bit of a mental game. I had to discipline myself and walk away from my desk/work and make time for this goal. Steve also changed our meals to healthier options. We also started walking the dogs again. Today, I’m nine pounds lighter than I was two months ago, in much better shape, and have a renewed confidence (maybe a bit too much at times) in life. And lucky for you, the next update will be a year from now when I’m 2 years smoke-free and writing a much shorter post.
