After spending 7 YEARS living in a cage in the shelter our most amazingly beautiful girl MUKA has been ADOPTED! This story is so overwhelming that it brought tears to those whose lives she has touched and who fell in love with her during their time walking with her in the mountains from the shelter. We are forever grateful to Ana and Craig for opening their hearts to Muka and giving her the home she so patiently waited for for so long. We cant thank you enough and we know that she will be forever loved and totally spoilt the rest of her life. This is Mukas Mums story: When we arrived in Santiago and saw the heartbreaking situation with all of the stray dogs we were convinced that we needed to at least take one off the streets! After finding out about Adopta Perro Santiago and the great work they did it seemed we had found the perfect organization from which to adopt our furry friend. Our constraint was that we were living in an apartment and although we could arrange 3 walks a day for the dog with the help of a lunchtime dog walking service, we were nervous about subjecting a dog to apartment living with potentially longish days alone as we both work. After speaking to Suzie from Adopta Perro she advised us that an older dog would best suit our situation as they would be happy to be out of their cage close to human contact and would be grateful for any walks and the love they would get living with us. Following our first conversation Suzie sent photos of some of the older dogs at the shelter and when I saw Muka it was love at first sight. However, we were slightly nervous about the fact that she was slightly older and could potentially be difficult to domesticate at this age. Another chat with Suzie allayed all of our concerns and we decided that we would take Muka in the next day! Muka arrived with Suzie at our apartment completely bewildered by a lot of things such as traffic, tiled floors and even the spongy grass of the apartment gardens under her feet. When I met her outside the apartment block she just looked adorable, nervous, completely confused, but with big beautiful eyes and a little smile which just made me want to pick her up and cuddle her there and then! Poor Muka’s first day in the apartment was chaotic, as we had an unexpected houseful, but after showing her her bedroom she came and sat with us on her blanket in the living room watching the rugby with my husband and three friends and sat very quietly seemingly just pleased to be close to people! We expected to have a lot of house training to do with Muka but so far she has been great, settling into a regular pattern of walks and hasn’t messed once in the house. On Sunday morning we gave Muka her first bath ever! She was good as gold as all the dirt of 7 years of shelter living poured and poured out! Since Muka arrived she really has been an absolute angel, she comes and sits down with us whenever we sit down in the house, and otherwise she is my constant shadow! Every time I look around there is her little smiling tan face looking up at me! She is great on the lead too and isn’t fazed at all by other dogs, actually as early as day two we let her off the lead in the park as it was clear she had found her home and wasn’t going anywhere! Craig and I are delighted to have Muka in our house she is the perfect companion, so easy to have around and constantly makes us laugh and smile by her continual happy demeanor as she wanders round the apartment wagging her tail and sniffing all the smells of her new home!
